Moving from residential aged care, a group home or your parents’ home into a house where you get to decide what you do and how you live is a big thing for most people. When you are living with a disability there are a number of different things that need consideration before making such a move.
Ensuring you have a thoroughly thought out approach ensures you are able to maximise the funding you have received as part of the NDIS for your future SDA housing.
Inappropriate housing creates numerous challenges and barriers for any individual with a disability. It can impact on your day to day functioning, work or study activities and therefore create frustrations and hurdles that can negatively influence your quality of life.
With the implementation of the NDIS and specifically with the addition of the SDA housing funding you are in a position to create a home environment that supports your well being on every level.

What is SDA?
Specialist Disability Accommodation ‘SDA’ – is a government legislated social housing scheme. It caters to Participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs who may be eligible for SDA Funding. It is estimated that 6% of NDIS Participants will receive SDA approval. SDA funds could be channeled to access new-build housing solutions.
What is the role of the NDIS?
“There are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. Within the next five years, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will provide $22 billion in funding a year to an estimated 500,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
The NDIS can provide all people with disability with information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as information about what support is provided by each state and territory government” ndis.gov.au
